VLC to play internet radio stations

I would like to know if VLC will play internet radio stations like Jamcast. Jamcast will play what ever is being herd on computer speakers. I want to play radio stations with wi-fi to a D-Link m255 extender in another room of house. Jamcast will do that but will VLC also do it. Thanks for any help
