High Def sound Requirements

Hi,

I was just wondering what's needed for high def sound.

What I have is a hd sound chip built into mobo capable of 24 bit sound. I have blurays and decoders such as the legendary vlc (you must have heard of this :p) and powerdvd capable of decoding truehd and dts hd ma.

Here's the thing. I'm using stereo full range speakers connected to a 3.5mm jack. Is this a problem? to be honest the sound is incredibly clear but there's no difference between aac 128kb and lossless.

Powerdvd decodes truehd and dts hd ma as lpcm 24 48.

VLC does not decode DTS HD MA, to be honest.

But for PowerDVD, you should hear the difference. And 3.5mm jack is not a problem.

yeah, i understand vlc decodes the core. 3.5mm can handle lossless? so i'm all set up? that's good.

one thing i don't understand is vlc is crystal clear audio when playing anything [dts/dolby/aac]. powerdvd in full truehd/dts hd ma 7.1 sounds muddy compared to vlc. no idea why.
