zonal problems

Postby Star88 » 15 Jul 2005 23:27

I am using Xandros, have downloaded LVC according to the instructions. The program works fine for videos from the USA, but for region 4 videos, my computer tells me that there is no dvd. I also use the windows based player, and it works fine for all my DVD's. I looked for libdvdcss2, but it wasn't there. I even opened a console and typed apt-get... and received the following response:

apt-get install vlc libdvdcss2
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
vlc is already the newest version.
Package libdvdcss2 is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package libdvdcss2 has no installation candidate

Any sugguestions?

Hello,

You need to add our own repository to have libdvdcss2. It's not distributed in the main Debian archive.

Have a look at http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-debian.html

Thanks

Could someone please tell me how to do that on Ubuntu? The normal tool one would use for installing VLC doesn't seem to work.

ED:
Nevermind! Looks like VLC wouldn't install anyway. Unmet dependencies. :(
Search function, here I come.

Uncommented eveything, but no luck:

Code: Select all

vlc: Depends: dbus-1 (>=0.23.4) but it is not installable Depends: libflac6 but it is not installable Depends: libhal0 (>=0.4.0) but it is not installable Depends: libmodplug0 (>=1:0.7-1) but it is not installable Depends: wxvlc but it is not going to be installed
Still the same error I've had all along. I've got very little clue about how to fix it.

Code: Select all

ceriel@Guerilla1:~$ sudo dpkg -i /home/ceriel/Desktop/debs/dbus-1_0.23.4-6_amd64.deb Selecting previously deselected package dbus-1. dpkg: regarding .../debs/dbus-1_0.23.4-6_amd64.deb containing dbus-1: dbus conflicts with dbus-1 dbus-1 (version 0.23.4-6) is to be installed. dpkg: error processing /home/ceriel/Desktop/debs/dbus-1_0.23.4-6_amd64.deb (--install): conflicting packages - not installing dbus-1 Errors were encountered while processing: /home/ceriel/Desktop/debs/dbus-1_0.23.4-6_amd64.deb ceriel@Guerilla1:~$
I am confused. Muchly so. Does the package conflict with itself or...?

dbus conflicts with dbus-1
You are trying to install dbus-1, but dbus package (earlier version) is already installed and conflicts with dbus-1

You cannot have both of them installed at the same time (debian forces this). So either uninstall dbus, or find a way to install vlc without dbus-1 (i'm not sure that is possible though).

And please learn how you package manager works. I don't even use Debian and I could figure this one out.
