vlc phonon dependencies "problem"

Postby nickkefi » 05 Dec 2010 17:31

Why does phonon-backend-vlc depends on the VLC Media Player? It seams like a marketing dependency, it is annoying.

because you need libvlc for phonon-vlc.
VLC is nothing except a small wrapper to libvlc.

And this is a distribution issue, not ours.

Sorry if my writing was aggressive, but the reason I never liked your software is that it presented it's self as "a media player that just plays everything". When these technologies that make you better from the "others" are open and free, isn't the architecture of your software that makes it difficult for others to supply the same goods?

I would just like sound in linux to be uniform. It is very unpleasant to try out one media player (or backend) after the other to find which of them works at the time.

Clearly not. You are spreading FUD.
VLC is very modular, very simple to modify, all code is open source, and we have created and help in the creation of dozens of libraries that are actually used by many projects and many competitors...
