VLC Player V 1.1.2 Crashes playing .avi files

The best media player on the web, recently vlc has been crashing playing .avi files ( Win XP SP3). The latest version tried is v 1.1.2 , about 5 minutes back. The post of the vlc team is that the next stable version will be v 1.2 & that their team is overstretched. My heart & good wishes go out to them. Due to acute financial problems I am not able to contribute but I do pray that this product does not die. It has given joy and peace of mind to numerous netziens for many many years. It has ruled like a mighty king.

Would it possible for any reader to indicate what the last known stable version was & where it can be downloaded from ?

Since my last post here regarding crashing of VLC while playing .avi files, I have an ammendment to make. Not all .avi files but some posted recently on the internet crashed the VLC Player. [ mostly short training movies (~ 20 - 30 minutes)]. I have been scouring the internet for 'ialmrnt5.dll, related PC crashes, no solution ( missed my lunch & in the process updated my PC drivers too , as suggested in some of the forums to prevent crashes. However when I reverted back to the VLC Forums the answers were there right under my nose !. I have copy / pasted them below ( My Thanks & all Credit to the original posters). These solved my problems & the VLC now works like a dream. :

1) For 'ialmrnt5.dll' related problem :

Nevermind...got it working....just uncheck 'use hardware YUV->RGB

conversions' under the 'preferences' -> 'video' tab, then save and restart VLC.

2) For HD Movies related problems :

H.264 codecs are pretty CPU intensive and VLC can't use multi-cores to

decode it yet.

So if your computer is dying when decoding 1080p samples from H264, do the

following.

* Open the preferences
* Tick advanced in the lower right corner
* Go to "Input/Codec"
* Go to "other codecs" subcategory
* Go to "FFmpeg"
* Put the "skip-filter for H264" to all
* Restart VLC

I forgot to mention my system configuration while posting my first complaint, Here it is :

System Configuration :

Mother Board : Intel D845GVSR , Intel Pentium 4 Processor, Bus Speed 133 MHz, BIOS : Intel VA84510A 86A 0056 P20 0605040337,
Memory : 2048 MB (2ns), Sound : Realtek AC97 Audio, Video : Intel(R) 82845G Graphics Controller.

OS : WinXP Pro SP3

I do hope that the VLC team would also keep in mind the PC users whose system is a 'bit old' or cannot be updated anymore, while developing new versions.
