I see that VLC 1.0.0 "plays" m2ts files, but there is no image. Is there a way to actually get it to show as well as read Blu-ray discs?

Not really... the discs either need to be unencrypted or you have to be using something like anydvd, and even then it cant read the menus you have to go straight to the streams
