Is there such a thing as a videolan "client"?

I was upgrading one of my media players using http://download.cnet.com down the bottom of the page was a link. Not very clearly indicating it was a "sponsors" link, it read "download the new VLC player" (and it was a link to http://www.vlc-full.info). That site "vlc-full" has enough on the site to mislead people that the site is related to "Videolan VLC player". The site lacks product detail, it's terms and conditions say it WILL alter your homepage. This concerned me so I am posting a note here, in case other come across it in the future.

VLC media player (initially VideoLAN Client) is a multimedia player designed for VideoLAN.

What are they talking about?
Now why would you need that?

I think it maybe malware. Does anyone else think the site's software may be dangerous?

This is declared to be a 136KB web installer. Official VLC windows installers are closer to 15MB and does not modify your homepage at all.
I can only advise you to only trust http://www.videolan.org (official) website and its download links. It is never a good idea to use other obscure links/websites.

NB1: VideoLAN helps VLC media player development, it is not the reverse of course.
NB2: VideoLAN is an opensource, community maintained project (Licensed under GPLv2). The website you found should provide VLC source code alongside the binary if it is modified, which is maybe the case of the installer if it modifies your homepage.
