Capturing Streaming Video??

Postby rhythm » 21 May 2005 18:46

OK this may be a tricky question or a very dumb one, but I'm kinda new to this stuff:
Is there any way to capture or save a streaming video you're watching on your computer from a subscription website?
I know you cannot directly save it onto your hard-disk, as that is the definition of a streamed video vs. a downloadable file.
But is there any way around this:like, while it's playing, have some kind of digital output from your computer going into a VCR or DVD recorder, or thru a TV module, or something??
Thanks for responding

Use any screen recorder to record it to your hard drive (the files can get veeeery large though)

Hello,

If you can play the stream with VLC, you can also save it to disk.

Use the "Streaming wizard" in the file menu.

You will have to enter the stream you want to record and answer a few questions about how you want it recorded.

TO Guest: Sorry, never heard of "screen recorder" programs What are the names of some of these screen recorders and where could i find/download them?

To Zorglub: I haven't been able to get the vids to play thru VLC. Currently they open in Windows Media Player when I select them from the subscription site. I'm on a Mac. In my File Menu, there is no such choice as "streaming wizard", just Open File, Open Disc, Open Network, etc. When I try to play it by going to Open Network, selecting HTTP and typing in the URL, I only get error messages. Where does this "streaming wizard" exist?

Return to “VLC stream-output (sout)”
