no audio-device avaible for streaming

Postby dom789 » 05 Jun 2011 10:29

Hello,

i would like to create a desktop audio stream to use it like a internet-radio-stream by my squeezebox.
Unfortunately i cant select any audio-device in vlc to do so.

I use a Realtek onboard chip.

Are there any solutions to make the Realtek chip selectible?

Many thanks in advance
Dom

On most systems, audio "output" devices cannot be recorded. PulseAudio is the only exception that I know, but VLC does not yet have a PulseAudio input plugin.

Hopefully, with VLC 1.2, this will be supported. But then again, it will require PulseAudio anyway.

Hello,

1. Could I use the streaming function of VLC PLayer if I would use a Creative Extreme Music Sound Card?

If that is not possible:

2. Are there any good Tutorials for installing and using PulsAudio, because I`m overwhelmed with this.

If I have expressed myself unclear i ask for correction to improve my English.

Thanks in advance
Dominik

This might help. I found a driver for Windows called Virtual Audio Cable that creates a software loopback from your sound output to your sound input. It does the job, but it attenuates the audio level by 12dB. I sent a request to Eugene to look at this problem, no response yet.

The trial version barks the word "TRIAL" every few seconds, but at least it allows you to determine if it will work for you.

Read the help file thoroughly to avoid common pitfalls. Such as, you should start your player or output stream first to set the parameters (bit depth, 1 or 2 channels, etc) then start the process that dumps audio into VAC.

Return to “VLC stream-output (sout)”
