Picking up my stream?

Postby amberbamber » 09 May 2005 03:29

I am streaming my cable tv signal over my wireless network (linksys wrt54gs) wireless g broadband router. I can watch the cable signal with vlc ok and I think it is streaming it over udp but since it doesn't play it at the same time on my desktop how do I know it's streaming the signal?

I followed the steps for streaming using the wizard over udp unicast. I choose my stream from my video capture card the same way as if I were watching the stream on my desktop pc.
I enter the ip address of my laptop on my lan and accept the rest of the defaults to finish. I guess it's playing as the pause button is visible not the play button.

To receive the stream I go to my laptop and run vlc. I open network stream and type in % vlc -vvv udp: in the "Open" space at the top of the Open Network Stream Media Resource Locater window and then click OK. Nothing happens. I don't see the tv show playing. The commands seem to run in vlc but they don't seem to do anything.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Amber
