Is there any way at all to stream VLC straight to the webcam output? so that sites like justin.tv or livestream can pick up the data and play it?

I've been trying to figure out if I can for a while, and I still can't figure it out.

It sounds like you want some software that can emulate a webcam. I don't know if VLC will do that. I doubt it.

You can try http://manycam.com/ . It's free. It'll create a "fake" webcam that you can select as a capture device on websites or software. You have a couple of option for what you output to the fake webcam. You can output feed from a real webcam, or a video file, or a still image.

Hope that helps.

Already have that, it doesn't handle sound well

Maybe streaming to webcam could be added to vlc possibly?

it couldn't be too hard

I have purchased two copies of VCam. http://www.e2esoft.cn/vcam/

It isn't the best solution for everything, but it is best at what it does.

It takes whatever is playing in VLC and sends it to a Virtual Camera.

Being that VLC can "play anything" it has been helpful for me.

The VLC VCam plugin dramatically reduces quality and efficiency of all VLC output.
