Streaming to embedded player on website?

Hello. my first post here!

I just discovered that VLC is able to stream, and have been wanting to webcam my shop for quite a while so that people can watch us work.

Problem is, when it comes to HTML, I'm an idiot.

I have a Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 plugged into the laptop in my shop, and want to stream the output to a page on my website into an embedded player. How can I do this? I've been over the guide and aren't finding anything really useful, such as the HTML code to enter in the page.

The page I want to stream to is http://www.wolfetone.com/webcam.html

I'm not sure what Network protocol to enter in to VLC.
I'm not sure of ANY settings to give VLC....

Can anyone help?

Is this website on your own (physical piece of hardware) webserver? Perhaps in your shop...
Or
On a remote webhost somewhere in cyberspace?

The website itself is hosted at Ipower.com

The video server will be my own piece of hardware located in the shop. My laptop with webcam. So code needs to be placed on the /webcam.html page to pull and embed the video from the laptop, and the laptop's VLC needs to be set up to direct the video to the page... I assume.

OK
First take a look here
http://wiki.videolan.org/Simple_Stream_VLC_to_Website
Then here
http://wiki.videolan.org/Stream_VLC_to_ ... _and_Flash

Probably easier ( I would recommend) to serve the stream yourself and link your remote host to your own webserver (when you have set one up?!). Otherwise you may have issues with cost/bandwidth, in that you would have to relay the stream to your remote host,...But, remote webhosts often get very "xyz!" about streaming and usually prohibit it... Potentially uses lots of bandwidth, see your webhost Ts & Cs.

You won't need much html other than the examples in the wiki. If you don't have a static IP then see "dyndns.com"

Try it out on a LAN first

I got it working, but not using VLC. The documentation was...let's just say less than helpful.
I wound up using WebcamXP which was very straightforward. Took all of five minutes, but... I'm not super impressed with the flexibility or setting capabilities.

I'll keep tinkering with VLC, but I sure wish they' dmake the documentation less confusing.
