Recording NASA TV

Postby markvnl » 27 Aug 2009 17:57

Hi there,

Using VLC 1.0.1 on Windows 7 RTM.
I am trying to record the NASA TV webstream. I used to do that with previous versions of VLC, and it worked fine. Saved them as .asf files, and Windows Media Player plays them perfectly.
Now with this version, I am having troubles. I tried all kinds of settings, and it just doesn't work right. Sometimes I get audio but no video, sometimes Media Player tells me it can't recognize the file format.

I am trying to record from http://www.nasa.gov/55644main_NASATV_Windows.asx. In VLC, I use Media -> Open Network Stream -> ALT+S for the streaming options.

Anyone can help me with the right settings so that VLC will record files that can be played with Windows Media Player?

Thanks!

Asx files can be played with nearly anything because it's been around a while.

To record with the latest versions of VLC (1) simply press SHIFT - R

The recorded snippet or file will be located on your hard drive (2).

The file type saved will be, I think, always the same format as the original file. Thus
in this case it will be an .asx file.

Return to “VLC stream-output (sout)”
