streaming mpeg from web server

I have searched these forums for two days and I cannot find any specifics on how to stream a large mpeg. It is 48M. I would like the viewers of the website to be able to click a link and have VLC stream it to them on their Windows Media Player. Thus far I have been able to UDP multicast on my lan and see the video on another PC by opening the stream. I have played around with the mms:// suggestions and all of the 127.0.0.1 stuff, but nothing is working out for me.
