VOB files and external subtitels

Postby lodest » 02 Jun 2009 01:08

Purpose is to use VLC to convert a VOB file to a TS file, in combination with an external subtitle SRT file.

I don't think it is possible to convert VOB or TS files with external SRT subtitle files to another format, so there is no "1 step solution" with VLC.

I know it is possible in VLC for some kind of video files (e.g. AVI files) to stream them with external SRT subtitle files.

So my question is : which is the best format into which i could convert the VOB file (1st onversion), and then convert this file to a TS file in combination with external SRT subtitles (2nd conversion) ? Of course the 1st conversion has to be "as lossless as possible" and I prefer it to be be supported by VLC.

Tx !

You can try to use DVD flick. I had a little bit different situations, where I made VOB file from AVI+srt, with multiple streams (for every subtitle separate stream). Then I converted this file with VLC to TS (with stream all elementary streams selected and dvb subtitle selected in subtitles section).

This worked ok when playing on VLC but on STB I had some blue stripes on subtitles. I still have this problem.
