can't stream to file from video source in newest build

Postby fotty » 13 Apr 2009 20:59

I had used VLC player a while back to save some recordings I had on my cable company issued DVR. It worked pretty well to record standard def, and I was even able to record non encrypted HD content. In VLC, all I did was select the source and set the output as file, and it worked fine to dump the raw input, and I would use other software to worry about converting the TS files over to whatever format I wanted.

Now in the newest stable release (0.9 I believe?), no matter what I do, or the order I do it in, I can not to this. When I select to stream it to file, it always just starts up my laptops built in webcam, and starts streaming THAT. Even when I have the cablebox tuner as the selected source, it just changes as soon as I click the button to start, and records from the laptop webcam.

If I just tell it to stream the cablebox source to VLC player, it does so, and works fine. It is only when I try to actually output the stream to a file that I get VLC just grabbing my webcam instead of the selected source device.

I didn't go back to archived builds yet to figure out what version this stopped working on, I wanted to first post here to see if anyone had any thoughts. I tried digging a bit through the forum but didn't turn up much, although I did see someone who seemed to be having the same or very similar issue, but they had no replies to their posting.
