rebuffering problem and video color during live streaming

I'm at the preliminary stages of streaming live seminars to a website. Of all the options available, VLC seems to be the most flexible and I'm having a good time with it. My setup is quite basic: XP running on a dual core intel, wireless connection speed of 12-24Mbs and a WAN speed of up to 6Mbs. I'm using a sony DCR-TRV460 digital camera with USB streaming to the PC. In VLC, my setup is; 640x480 res; sout is MMHS, WMV/ASF container, vbr of 256kb/s - ASF and MP3 at 32kb/s. All other settings are at default values (eg cache - 200ms). Streaming works fine but with a few hiccups:

1. VLC video is missing some colors, eg red objects show up as blue (camera and PC's VGA are all ok).
2. Video output is not very sharp
3. Clients (using windows media player) experience a lot of rebuffering. I'm guessing that this happens when the camera is panning or zooming. The VLC log confirms this by dumping a lot of vbv overflow/underfow warnings such as:

avcodec warning: vbv buffer overflow
(msmpeg4@00BB3220)
avcodec warning: vbv buffer overflow
(msmpeg4@00BB3220)
main warning: late buffer for mux input (30588)
main warning: late buffer for mux input (4467)
:
:

I read somewhere that this might be due to jitters in the USB stream from the camera. I haven't tried firewire yet but I'll like to know if there's something else that I might be able to do in VLC to mitigate rebuffering before I invest in extra hardware - also if anyone could help me to tweak up my system for better quality video etc.

thanks

The color mix up in VLC is USB related. With firewire color is fine.
