x264 to MPEG2 Squares and Choppy

Postby TheGenesis » 15 Mar 2009 19:22

Hello,

when I transcode my x264 encoded Video´s to MPEG2 TS (realtime for viewing via dBox/Neutrino) the result is sometimes choppy and small sqares are jumping trough the picture.

The Rendering on Screen and Playback via MPlayerC is perfect!

My encoding parameters are:

Windows CLI EXE Version -> x264 core:66 r1093M 1df50b9

x264.exe --crf 21 --ref 4 --bframes 16 --b-pyramid --weightb --analyse all --8x8dct --subme 7 --trellis 1 --mixed-refs --progress --threads auto --no-psnr --no-ssim --direct temporal --partitions all --me hex --deblock -2:-4 --aq-strength 0.5 --deadzone-inter 2 --deadzone-intra 4 --threads auto --progress --output LostInSpace.mp4 LostInSpace.vob

I Have tried the VLC Version 0.86d and 0.98a ... same results with both versions.

I won´t change the encoding parameters, because it produces awesome quality at a very low bitrate.

How can I fix the problem ?

Thanx in advance
Thom

I have compared the settings and found the parameter causing the problem ... it is the --8x8dct

Why is the playback of these Videos ok and the transcode/streaming is faulty ?

I have the exact same symptoms. I am using SnapStream ByontTV 4.8 which encodes the videos automatically. And when I replay in VLC, I get choppy video with squares. It plays fine in QuickTime in my case though! Please help us! :P
