VLC push realtime stream to Windows Media Service

Postby leland » 03 Mar 2009 09:25

I craete a live node in windows media service(named live1)
I can use windows media encoder to pushreal time stream(capture from Camera)
Now I want to sue VLC to instead windows media encoder
What's type of out stream I should set in VLC config?
If the pushmethod can't use, can I config VLC then use pull method to let WMS pull stream from VLC?
Thanks for your any response.

Hey leland,

This is a very good question... After days of research, it seems that it's not possible with the VLC player... I've added this as a feature request, and i'm sure the more support this thread get's... Maybe they'll add it to the VLC player so that we can all enjoy this feature.

It's not possible. I don't think it will anytime - it is very old feature request, but no any response or mention in todo lists.

But actually I want it to see too.

But... you can stream to WMP directly.

What do you mean?

I am also looking for wme replacement and I though vlc would be able to do it. But I guess I am wrong.

Could you at least elaborate on what you said "stream to WMP directly"?

Thanks

he means that you can "bypass" windows media encoder all together, and have your clients(WMP - windows media player) connect to VLC's stream directly.

there are situations in which you dont want to do this however. it would be nice to get vlc "push" streaming to windows media encoder. but who knows, does MS use a proprietary protocol for this? or just UDP on a specific port or something?
