VLC + PS3 + DLNA (streaming)

Postby an3k » 05 Nov 2008 16:48

Hi everybody,

i already checked the howto's and googled but didn't found any information. I want to set up VLC as a DLNA-Server so my PS3 gets all the images, videos and songs i have on that PC.

i downloaded the 7zip package and extracted it. I followed the guide telling how to enable web interface and streaming.

streaming already worked (quick test) but webinterface is always Error 403 (or 404 if i enter crap). If i access http://10.0.0.26:8080/index.html i get 403. Do i need a windows component like IIS or something?

i use windows XP prof. sp3

I don't want to stream, i want to set up a DLNA server.

VLC does not implement DLNA.

afaik, there is no upnp thus no dlna server site implemented in vlc, yet :)
use mediatomb, you team it up with vlc/ffmpeg and it works just great

first, the problem with the web-interface is solved. i did not accessed 127.0.0.1:port but 10.0.0.26:port but .hosts only allows 127.0.0.1 from default. after the webinterface is available everything is much easier ;)

Rémi: i found many articles about VLC telling that it's configurable to "support" DLNA. Sure its not certified but - to believe the articles - DLNA certified devices such as PS3 will accept VLC as DLNA server.

I guess nobody has a clue so i have to browse the dlna specification and configure vlc myself? :)

At least there is no DLNA support in the VLC tree.

well okay according to an3k it's configurable to 'support' dlna. first... what does support mean?? does that mean that it can view another upnp/dlna server and play THOSE video's? or that it can actually be a server itself and have the ps3/xbox, whatever you want to use, pick up the video's and play them, without any extra plug-in's. Cause I'm wanting it to actually be a server... and to have it be able to share my library with it just being built into the software...

Hopefully it'll be in the 1.0 release... which comes out when exactly?

Why are people saying the ps2 eyetoy camera does not work on a ps3 when it does work?
I have a ps2 eyetoy and a ps3. This camera works fine in Little Big Planet, burnout paradise and others. I want the people who are saying that the ps2 eyetoy doesn't work on a ps3 to explain how they are coming to this conclusion. I want them to tell me why my ps2 eyetoy camera ($5 used at Gamestop) works on my ps3, but they are telling others that they wont work togteher.
