Protect streams by IP?

Hi;
I've got a streaming server setup and web users can view the content using a streaming page (using vlc plugin) I've setup.
These same users can still load the stream using a native VLC client though going directly to the target. Is there a way to restrict who can connect with an allowed hosts list?
I can setup iptables and add firewall policies to allow this, but I want to know if there is something built-in to VLC that will do the same. The http vlc interface has a hosts list for allowed admins... is there something like this for protecting streams?
Thanks,
Rafael
