VLC Streaming cuts out after 15 seconds

I am very new to VLC and streaming but have set up an OpenSUSe 10.2 server to stream an .avi file to my XP desktop.
The problem is that it initially works fine by opening a capture device and selecting HTTP then adding the IP address plus port 8080, however this only works for 15 seconds then the local media player stops.
