UDP stream on MAC OSX

hi,
When i try to access a multicast stream on a mac with VLC, it shows me this error
access_udp: cannot open socket
main: no suitable access module for `udp://@(*IP ADDRESS*):8082'
macosx: Error: Unable to open 'udp://@(*IP ADDRESS*):8082'
What is the problem here?
I wish to stream a via UDP to about 25 people, how should i go about it, I want everyone with any operating system which VLC supports to be able to view the stream?
