Multicast Streaming from DVB Card on Suse 10

Postby fritzbee21 » 29 Nov 2006 13:12

hi,

i would like to realise the following thing in my Network:

DVB-T Card (could be also DVB-C)
receives a TV Programm, VLC will stream it to my Network in MPEG 4

I read the streaming howto yesterday, dvb drivers are running yet - thats not the problem.

but i am not sure in:

vlc must be compiled with "enable dvb"

for the suse system, there are only the precompiled rpms for download available, but i think these rps are without "dvb-enable" compiled.

i need at least the source to compile the vlc for myself ?
-> is that the right way ?
is there anywhere a howto available for compiling with dvb-enable ?

what dvb-cards work together with vlc ?

on the homepage here are named
haupauge dvb-c
-> this must be the pci dvb-c card from haupauge -
siemens pci card must work too

haupauge nova-t
with that description i found a pci card or a usb box.
what is the right unit ?

Packmans VLC is compiled with --enable-dvb

Most standard Hauppauge cards work with the DVB drivers, also those from Technotrend work fine (Most likely because they're almost identical I guess :p ) - I always suggest PCI versions because they tend to work more reliably than USB - at least in my field of work I've found it to be so.

You can pretty easily compile yourself a VLC of your dreams - that's a non-issue under SuSE.
