vlc streaming server and sdp problem

hi,eveyone,
I find that vlc can support SDP. But when I stream a video out with vlc and in the client I open a sdp file ,I get noting. By the way, the client player I use is MP4Player. In fact,when I stream out a video to a multicast ip address and in the client I can open the video with vlc withe the multicast ip address.
So, I am confused that If i use vlc as streaming server, can I get the video by openning a sdp file with my player(vlc or MP4Player)? Since vlc support SDP protocol, It should achieve this function. However, my test shows that it does't. So, is there someone have experience in this field? Thanks very much for your help.
