auto save stream to file every 10 minutes as fileNNN?

guys,
I am filming my band, but am also the drummer in the band. What I do is setup VLC to record the live input from my camera to a hard disk on my notebook PC. These video files get big really quick, so I'd like to have VLC save the streamed video output automatically to a new file named file001.mpg, file002.mpg and so on every 10 minutes, so that I don't have to worry about getting up from the kit to save a file.

Is this possible with the current version of VLC? If not, could I add this as a feature request or maybe someone could point me to the correct area in the code to modify the source.

That is in the works for 0.8.6. You'll have to wait untill then.

Was that ever implemented? Automatic file creation of one second clips (of input stream) is desirable.

Correction: Automatic creation of files containing one minute clips of input stream is desirable.
