VLC IP Multicast and Windows Media Player client

Hello there,

My goals are to stream IP multicast and to have Windows Media Player as client.

I've tried IP multicast with mmsh output. The issue is, when i type mms://239.0.0.1:1234, Windows Media Player (WMP). WMP says to make sure server is available and network/proxy setting are correct - C00D11B3: Encountered a network error. (i don't have proxy & the test environment i connect client directly to streaming server)

When I tried IP multicast with udp output. WMP does not recognize udp://, it only do http://, rtsp:// and mms://

The reason i insisted to use WMP is because is easier to deploy as most of the users, uses Windows based OS.

I would appreciate if you could share your point view in this issue.

Thank you!

Almost same problem

Hi,
I'm looking also for a solution.

I'm able to set a new vod media through vlm and acces it via "vlc rtsp://host:port/media_name"

This also works using Quicktime player (File, Open Url)

But it doesn't work with Windows Media Player and doesn't work with Real Player.

Anybody knows what i'm missing ?

Hello there,

I looked quite a bit of information on that and the bad news is that without windows media server, you should forget about it.
Windows Media Server generates an encrypted descriptor for multicast streams... This descriptor was cracked recently but I believe it is likely quite complex and I'm not sure if the VLC team would be allowed to generate it.

So, is there a way to capture the streamout from VLC from Windows Media Server then multicast it out from it to WMP?
Thanks in Advance

No, I don't believe so.
