HELP:: PC suddenly restarts on streaming..

Postby tarekeldeeb » 11 Jan 2006 05:38

Hello all..
:D

I downloaded the vlc program.. i wanted to stream video on lan frm a LifeView TV tuner card..

so i did the following :

* File >> open capture device >> direct show
* refresh list >> choose both audio and video devices
*checked the 'Stream Output' >> checked 'UDP' and address=255.255.255.255 (also tried 192.168.0.x)
* just after pressing ok to start the streaming, the processor restarts .. and begins a new boot..

I tried these steps on 2 PCs..having windows XP (32 and 64 bit) ..these same happened on both !!

Is this a bug or I've done something wrong ??

Please help..

Thanks in advance

Yours,
Tarek

Hi,

seems to have to do with the directshow device. I, for instance, can stream from my tuner card but when i want to grab a picture from my usb webcam the computer restarts just like that. I was able to reproduce that with another computer so i have to guess that it is the ds device...

Can anyone reproduce this 'bug' with different hardware?

Try, checking 'Device Properties' in the Advanced Options menu in the Open Capture Device menu. You'll have to click through, and set what you like, but it eliminated the restart problem for me having that checked off. If you come up with a better solution, do post it.

Did that do the trick for you?

See: viewtopic.php?t=12394 for a further discussion.

If you come up with a way to configure things through the command line, rather than forcing Device Properties, do share.
