is there a time limit on recording length?

I streamed to file on more than 2 occasions and vlc stopped streaming video to file at 3h21minutes but keep recording blank video hours further.
I had used differing frame rates 12fps, 8fps, 4fps
the vcodec was theora into a ogg container, no acodec

The desktop computer does not have sleep or hibernate enabled , Linux Xubuntu. XFCE Power manager turns off the monitor at around 120 minutes
I recorded a Logiteck quickcam at 0.5 resolution 480p/2

Anyone have an idea what could be causing this time limit?

You should look at the logs to see why it does not work anymore.

I have had this same issue on a few occasions and assumed there was a limitation somewhere on vlc for recording. But researching it I only found this issue and https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?t=147996 where it's documented and in both cases, there was no resolution or max length determined.??
