Streaming webcam through 3rd party VPN service(PIA)

Postby nicoleluk » 17 Jul 2017 17:55

I am new to this forum and I am not sure if this question is more related to VLC or my VPN provider.

I am trying to live stream video from my webcam to HTTP(port 8080) through a 3rd party VPN service (Private Internet Access). My thought is that the VPN service can secure my stream by giving it an anonymous IP.

The streaming without VPN works fine. When VPN is established between the webcam and HTTP, I cannot access the stream at the IP address given by PIA's server. However, I can access it at the original IP. Is there a way to configure my network connection so that my stream comes out from the IP given by PIA? Would you recommend other ways to secure streams with VPN (besides using a 3rd party service)?

Thanks in advance.

This is really down to VPN configuration. The gateway has to assign you a public IP address, and allow inbound connections. This does not need any particular tool, more like a particular provider.
