Hello and thanks in advance for any help. I am using VLC for windows and want to have it do a multicast stream so that windows media player can open it. I have been trying to do this for two weeks now and have searched and searched through the forums with no luck. I can open the udp multicast stream with the vlc client, but with windows media player, you cannot open udp://multicast.address, as udp is not a valid url option.
Please help

i think that you need to install special codecs (or whatever they're called) to be able to use udp multicast in WMP ... but i can't see why you would do that since VLC works great

Thanks for the reply. It's not a matter of codec's. Windows media player will only open url's of http, rtsp, or mms I think. What I need to know is how to stream with multicast with vlc with one of those url types. The reason to use windows media player is there is a potential of me streaming to 1000's of workstations with wmp already installed, also, hence the use of multicast.

well its not called codec but i know that some "pack" can be installed to use udp in WMP. (since i never use WMP ... i don't really know the right term)

a filter is it called in WMP.
Indeed there should be a filter that can handle it, but i have no idea again which one.
Basically, WMP sucks and don't use it

Can't you use the HTTP streaming option and use the ASF encapsulation method with WMV2 video codec?
