VLC API for recording of live stream

Hello,
I want to get some API in LIBVLC for recording the video content coming from a multicast ip address.I know the same can be done using command line in VLC.Looking for some API to control schedule the recording and save the same.
I think in LIBVLC there should be some API for this.Let me know if some information is really there.
