VLC and MiniDV -> Streaming! But How?

Postby Kosmonaut » 22 Mar 2006 21:59

Hey you VLC Freaks :-)

I'm playing around with my MiniDv-Cam and VLC and finaly I'm able to "connect" VLC and and my old MiniDV-Camera!
Great right!
With:
I@Diabolo:~$ dvgrab - |vlc - :demux=rawdv
I can see the output of my Cam. via VLC.
Ok! Fine!!

But: I'm to stupid to realise a stream with this output!
The Question is: How can I stream this dvgrap|Vlc demux?
I would like to stream a upd-(or http-) signal. You know I would like to use my Cam as a Webcam!
I had a look in the Howto...but i'm seriously to stupid to understand it. :-(
Could someone give me an example "commande-line".
ANY (!) hint would be excelent!

[Sorry:I'm german->my english is bull-s**t]

I have a questtion. about this. Do you use the Firewire port for this. This code looks at the fire wire port and the configures Vlan to see it correct. If not whats the correct code to configure the firewire port so Vlan can see it.
Thanks

Sir
I have a mini-dv camera, GS250 from panasonic,
I have connected the camera through IEEE 1394 port to my computer, I have used VLC to stream it as MPEG-2 UDP packets to every where I want.

Just I changed the scaling factor from 1 to 0.75 I think because the video size was too large.

My OS: Windows

can this solve your problem? if yes, let me know so that I send you the command.

Thanks for your answers, this is very appriciated.

Yes, indeed I have connected my Panasonic MiniDv Cam through Firewire (1394).
Well, as I said I am not a VLC-geek, therefore I'm just playing around with all kind of code-settings, but still without a success.

@__mami:I will thank you for showing me the code, that you use to stream the output of my MiniDv.

@mediaguy06: I have no idea what could be the right code so that VLC connects to my Cam. As you see I was just able to "pipe" the output of dvgrap to VLC.

BTW: My OS is Linux (but I think this shouldn't make a big difference)
*And again: my english is weak- Hope you understand what I'm trying to say*

sir
the biggest difference between windows and linux
VLC for windows uses direct show to get the capture data from 1394 or any other capture source.
what will be used in linux?
