3x3 mosaic with 9 VOBs to 1 multicast TS no linear cpu usage

Postby uli_soehnel » 17 Mar 2006 10:37

building up a 3x3 mosaic I found, that the cpu usage does not increase linear by adding channels to the mosaic. I get the following values of cpu usage
playing 1 channel 1%
playing 4 channels 2%
playing 5 channels 12%
playing 6 channels 21%
playing 7 channels 58%
playing 8 channels 88%
playing 9 channels 99%

all channels have the same configuration, OS is Win XP Pentium 4 2,8

Are the inputs on disc ? Maybe the fact that it needs to seek all over the place changes CPU usage. (i'm just guessing)

(what VLC version are you using ?)

I'll try to do similar tests here this week end to compare.

no the inputs are ripped DVDs placed on very big RAID systems on the same machine.

We tried to use different nightlies versions between 085-20060110 and yesterday. The versions of march actually cannot be controlled by telnet interface, I don't know why, though we used different versions of January and February. All versions have the same result. But when I remember correct, this problem was not present in 0.8.4. Ok, there was a memory leak, but the cpu usage was less. I think, since the memory leak was solved, the cpu usage increased, and also when you start with only a few of the 9 pictures cpu usage will increase when running several hours.
