Chromecast casting performance tanked between 3.0.10 and 3.0.17

Postby mrceolla » 31 Oct 2022 18:14

I was running 3.0.10 and decided to upgrade to try to fix VLC casting the wrong audio channel. When casting on version 3.0.17, the playback skips and breaks up frequently. On 3.0.10, no skipping or breakups. In both cases I have the quality set to High. With 3.0.17 I tried changing the quality, but playback was still skipping/pausing.

Naturally, I'm not exactly sure which version the problem was introduced since I skipped a few versions. I'm hoping someone is aware of a setting (possibly new) I simply need to change in 3.0.17 to make playback smooth again.

VLC appeared to be defaulting to the 2nd audio track when casting, when the first should be the default. Attempts to use additional command line switches to control this have not proven helpful. That said, this particular post is about the poor casting performance.

Does anyone know how to improve casting performance in newer versions of VLC?

Thanks!
