Using VLC to live stream external WAN RTSP connection to a website

Postby davisch » 31 Jan 2022 00:29

The Wiki link below shows how to use VLC to stream to a website from a webserver with a file local to the webserver.

Does anyone know if this type of approach can be used to either:

1) Use VLC on a web server to capture an external (WAN) live IP camera RTSP stream and then embed in a web page on the same web server?

or

2) Embed the VLC player in the web page to capture an external (WAN) live IP camera RTSP stream?

If either of these can be done would appreciate very much a blog or wiki post on how to do this. I am a novice just trying to figure out how to use VLC instead of paying a large monthly fee to a 3rd party to transcode the RTSP stream that I have already set up so it can be embedded in a web page.

Thanks.

Web browsers do not support RTSP and no longer allow the VLC web plugin, so no and no.

Rémi: Thanks for your quick reply. Disappointed. Would using OBS software on the web server to transcode the RTSP live stream to RMTP work for embedding in a web page?
