Confused Newbie

I am trying to accomplish something but I am not sure if I am on the right path. There are several postings in YouTube regarding the quality differences or lack thereof between HQ audio, 24 bit, 96 kHz versus normal 16 bit, 44.1 kHz. I am never convinced simply by others assertions so I talked myself into learning about the High Def processes.

My approach was to down load a High Def FLAC file and then feed it to the DAC in my Creek CD/DAC and compare it to the two other formats, CD and vinyl.

I asked a person who is relatively familiar with this area and he recommended that I down load VLC and and a FLAC music file, which I did. Herein lies my problem stemming from my massive ignorance. I can select the music files but they, by default, go to a conversion process, I am assuming, in VLC and is outputted to the headphone jack or system speakers in normal analog format.

I went into all of the tabs looking for something that might sound remotely like a way to output the data stream in the bit format externally to the DAC, but for the life of me, I found nothing encouraging. Then the thought occurred to me that I might have gone down the wrong path.

Can anyone advise me if I indeed did take the wrong path, that VLC will not accomplish this and if so, is there a process to do this?

Your question makes zero sense. VLC is software and therefore operates entirely in digital domain. Analog conversion is done by your audio chip.
