Multicasting between 2 VLANS

Postby motnoslo » 17 Dec 2014 17:13

I have a Wirecast server on one VLAN that streams unicast to a server that has a nic on one VLAN and a NIC on a 2nd VLAN.
The server is running the latest VLC and I've set VLC to stream the unicast from Wirecast, and multicast it out. I'm trying to multicast to the 2nd VLAN and have SAP announce set, but I don't see any announcement on VLC on a client on the 2nd VLAN. I do see the stream and SAP announcement on VLC on the server. Is there way to force the multicast onto the NIC of the 2nd VLAN?

I would say you need to change multicast routes in your host/server.

Example in linux
route add -net 224.0.0.0 netmask 224.0.0.0 dev <interface>

Good luck.
