I'm using VLC 2.1.2 on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on an AMD E-350 processor with 8 GB of RAM.
I'm trying to convert an .AVI encapsulated H.264 codec movie to an .MOV encapsulated format. Here's what's happening:
- I go to Media > Convert / Save
- I add the file and I click on Convert/Save
- I create my own profile where the encapsulation is MP4/MOV; the "Video Codec" tab has the "Video" option checked and the "Keep original video track" checked; the "Audio codec" tab does not have "Audio" checked because there's no audio in the video; there are also no subtitles
- The profile is named "Video to MOV"
- I click on "Create"
- Back in the "Convert" window I set the Profile to my newly created Video to MOV profile.
- In the destination I click "Browse" and in the browse window I type the name of my file as such: "description.mov"; it is worth noting here that the "Save as Type" drop-down menu only shows the .mp4 extension, not .mov, but I type my filename with the .mov extension like I've heard you're supposed to do.
- Back in the "Convert" window, the Destination file still reads with an .mp4 extension instead of the .mov extension I typed.
- So, I click in the "Destination file:" text box and replace the .mp4 extension with the .mov extension.
- I then click on "Start"
- The file streams in VLC, and when I go to the output destination, I see "description.mp4" and the file does play correctly in VLC.
