Video streaming in windows?

Postby Guest » 19 Feb 2004 11:52

OK, here is my question. I have a windows machine, IP=10.10.10.105, which has webcam.
I have installed VLC, run it, go to File - Streaming wizard and then:
step 1: select DirectShow Input: ICM532A (my webcam)
step 2: streaming method: play locally AND UDP: 10.10.10.50, port 1234
step 3: Start!

Another machine is also Windows based, and I run VLC and say: File - Open Network Stream - UDP/RTP, port 1234 (I do not enter IP).

What happens? Nothing.

Solution?

1. For the VLC streamer (server), where you check the UDP output method try an address of, for instance, 239.20.30.40
(239.20.30.40, port 1234)

2. On the same tab where you select that you want UDP output, near the bottom is "Transcoding Options". Make sure you check the video box, and pick a bitrate (for generic webcam stuff, don't need 1024 kbps, probably 128 or 256 is fine).

3. For the VLC client (the one where you are doing Open Network Stream), select the second UDP option, the one for UDP multicast, then plug in the 239.20.30.40 address (the one you set in [1] above).

I'd like to be able to use a webcam. How is the webcam input selected?
What do you mean by "Input: ICM532A"??

I finally got it to work by leaving the input set to default and putting in the actual IP addresses of the server and client.
Too bad there's no instructions, it would save everyone from asking so many questions after they get frustrated.

I agree, however there is limited manpower here so any help would be welcome.
