Stream for live event to ipad

Postby vokmma » 12 Jun 2012 01:23

Hi guys,

I've been fiddling around for the last 3 hours trying to make this work somehow.

objective.

we are running an event next month in a venue that has really poor sightlines so what we'd like to do is be able to stream a live video from a camera straight to peoples ipads/iphones etc. The problem is becasue its a live event and the viewers will actually be there it needs to be in pretty much real time. This means that it cannot go via the internet becuase of the delay factor.

Is it possible to stream live video/screen capture from a mac/camera to an ipad/iphone/android phone through LAN.

any suggestions ?

cheers

Dewi

You could use vlc to output the stream in HLS format on your LAN web server. You'll still get some delay though (around 10 - 15 seconds).

Only way I know of to do it in real time(ish) is via UDP/RTPmulticast or HTTP stream.. I've yet to find a multicast capable player for iDevices though.

I am looking for a solution to the same application. We cannot have a delay or 10-15 seconds between live and streamed video however.

It looks like this might be accomplished on the iOS devices using HTTP Live Streaming but I cannot find anyone who has successfully set a similar application up like this using VLC.

Has anyone had any luck yet?

Thanks

dalter,

I'm wondering what kind of progress you might have made? I am attempting a similar feat and have made some progress. Curious to hear how it's going for you.
