streaming with VLC

Postby maris » 24 Apr 2011 20:03

When i try to stream from one computer to another -I can't see it on the receiving computer-get an error message-
What is the easiest way to stream and how do I see it on my receiving computer. My receiving computer uses a router-
does the ip address refer to the computer's address or router's-Is the router causing problems and how can I siolve them

Thanks!!!!!!!

You give so little information about what you are trying to achieve and what you have done, that it is not possible to offer any answer.
Take a look around the wiki docu
http://wiki.videolan.org/Main_Page
And search. Yes, the docu is somewhat out of date in places, but should give the general idea

Re the info you have supplied on your post.....
The streaming server (transmitter) will have an IP and a port number from which you are streaming
Eg 123.456.78.9:8080
The client (receiver) will need to point to that IP:port
If you were streaming in http on port 8080
Then it would look like
http://xx.xx.x.x:8080

i wrote a quick and dirty howto over here:

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=68649

if that doesn't work, then the issue is related to your router.
