Strange issue with --rc-host and --daemon

I'm not sure if this is a bug.. but..

If I do:

vlc --rc-host=localhost:4212 movie.mpg

then telnet back into my local machine i can control VLC.

If I do:

vlc --rc-host=localhost:4212 movie.mpg --daemon

and telnet back into my machine, the telnet session fails.

is this a bug, or a feature?

It's a bug in the RC interface. I looks like it needs a terminal to work in any case.
