Streaming mpeg4 h.264 over udp causes slow motion movie

Postby DJ_VLC » 25 Sep 2008 13:55

Hi!
Im using vlc to stream h.264 encoded video over udp to a dbox2. The problem is that the video seen on the dbox is sometimes slow. the nework isn't the problem. When i play play ts files over a cifs share (on the same pc) there are about 4-5 mbits/s goung out to the dbox. And with divx avi there is no problem too. CPU usage is about 20% when i stream h.264. So there not a problem.
When I Stream MPEG Files it's DVD quality like ;-)
Would be nice if I had this quality with mpeg4 too.

Ich think the specific video material causes the playing lags.

Could it be, that I have to enable any type of hardware acceleration?

My Windows System:
Intel Core 2 CPU @ 2Ghz
2,5 GB Ram
VLC Player 0.8.5 (required for DBox streaming)
Ati Radeon X1650
ffdshow Filter

Are you sure the dbox can decode that movie correctly?

I think that isn't the problem. VLC transcodes the mpeg4 stream to an MPEG-TS Stream, that the dbox decodes correctly. I don't know much about encoding/decoding, but I would think the decoding of the mpeg4 is the problem. And because of that the encoder isn't supplied with enough frames to encode in MPEG-TS.
But when I play the files on that machine, there's no problem.
