MEO Triple Play in Portugal - Microsoft IPTV Streaming

Postby Kalim3ru » 04 Jan 2008 22:11

I'm from Portugal and I'm kind of new in this.

A new triple play (internet, phone and tv) service called MEO was launched, and it uses STB from Scientific Atlanta with WindowsCE and TV2Client.

The references are Kmm3000 for the STB without HDD and Kmm3010 with HDD...

I know that they are also known as X300T and X301T in Germany for T-Home company, and Kiss K8006 in Club-Internet in France.

I was wondering if it is possible to stream channels to vlc in the computer and vice versa: Stream movies from the computer into the STB...That would simply be the best thing yet to come!!!

Thanks in advance for any info!

Hello, I'm, from Portugal and I have MEO too.
I am also searching for a way to stream content from PC to STB, so I can play videos directly in my TV (which has an homecinema connected and streaming music to it would be cool with it great speakers).

If the STB interface had a "channel customization", where we could add channels by inserting their IP and port where the channel is streaming in, it would be possible to do what we want, by inserting the IP and port where my PC is streaming, like 192.168.1.128:5000 (and PC streaming videos in MPEG2-TS format, readable by this STB)...

There is a generic firmware for most STBs with a standardized generic interface which could be used to enter
the URL of a local VLC server stream into the video player of the STB.
However, in most installations the STBs use specialized customized firmware which lacks those features and makes it a closed system.

Alternatively, a STB application which can be loaded form the provider website to run on the TV2client in the STB could provide an
interface to the local video player to enter video stream URLs from a local server.
Unfortunately, since there is no economic interest in this concept for the provider, getting support to implement
this simple feature seems quite unlikely. Such support is, however, required to be able to access the STB video player directly.

In the light of this considerations buying a separate IP STB with a wireless connection for less than $200 seems the more realistic solution
although all the needed functionality is already existing in the provided STB. :(
