how transcode and get video-file as output

Postby calgonite » 28 May 2008 18:14

Hello,

I downloaded and installed the newest VLC Player.

Several times in different ways I tried to transcode an AVI and also an MKV file, I only get audio output.

Image

I clicked and delected a codec and audio, but it always ignores the video. reading teh manual didnt help.

How can I save an AVI or MKV.h264 file as mpeg?

Thanks,

Calgonite

Maybe it's because you're trying to encode in MPEG2 while using the MPEG1 container? Try choosing MP4 or MPEG PS as a container or change video codec to mp1v. Good luck!

Hello,

I tried that, didnt get any video layer, just audio. (again)

Container mp4 and mp4v codec didnt work, too.

Can you tell me an exact example which combination actually gives out a video stream with audio? :?:

Thanks,

calgonite, hi!

It seems there realy is a problem and it depends on the input file contents. I've tried encoding two avi files with the following command line:

Code: Select all

vlc test.avi --sout #transcode{vcodec=mp4v,vb=1024,acodec=mp4a,ab=128}:std{access=file,mux=mp4,dst=test.mp4}
With test.avi video stream disappeared and with test2.avi everithing went normal. Here is the two files info:

Code: Select all

General Complete name : D:\temp\test.avi Format : AVI Format/Info : Audio Video Interleave File size : 23.2 MiB Duration : 4mn 46s Overal bit rate : 679 Kbps Writing library : VirtualDub build 7713/release Video Format : MPEG-4 Visual Codec ID : DIV3 Codec ID/Hint : DivX 3 Low Duration : 4mn 46s Bit rate : 578 Kbps Width : 640 pixels Height : 360 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16/9 Frame rate : 25.000 fps Resolution : 24 bits Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.100 Stream size : 19.7 MiB Audio Format : MPEG Audio Format version : Version 1 / Layer 3 Codec ID : 55 Codec ID/Hint : MP3 Duration : 4mn 46s Bit rate mode : CBR Bit rate : 96.0 Kbps Channel(s) : 2 channels Sampling rate : 44.1 KHz Resolution : 16 bits Stream size : 3.27 MiB

Code: Select all

General Complete name : D:\temp\test2.avi Format : AVI Format/Info : Audio Video Interleave File size : 44.2 MiB Duration : 4mn 37s Overal bit rate : 1338 Kbps Movie name : Ледниковый Период Subject : Эпизод 2 Copyright : Bad&Mad Bros Video Format : MPEG-4 Visual Codec ID : DIV3 Codec ID/Hint : DivX 3 Low Duration : 4mn 37s Bit rate : 1200 Kbps Width : 512 pixels Height : 320 pixels Display aspect ratio : 1.600 Frame rate : 25.000 fps Resolution : 24 bits Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.293 Stream size : 39.6 MiB Audio Format : MPEG Audio Format version : Version 1 / Layer 3 Codec ID : 55 Codec ID/Hint : MP3 Duration : 4mn 36s Bit rate mode : CBR Bit rate : 128 Kbps Channel(s) : 2 channels Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Resolution : 16 bits Stream size : 4.21 MiB
P.S.: I suggest using MediaCoder (http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/) for files transcoding in cases when vlc doesn't work.

Thanks, tried that, could transcode all but not MKV.

(I dont know why my last anwer is not visible, here I tapy it again).

Mediacoder and most of other programs, even AutoMKV are Junk if you have MKV/h264 dual audio.

Sometimes All2Avi can transcode. I wait for a MKV playing DVD standalone player.

Thanks all anyway. :P
