Hi - I have an incoming H.264 stream via UDP and I would like to serve it to as many users (in the thousands) as possible via http. So far I have memory and load problems when I get to 20 users.
When I compile *without* (disable) FFMPEG, my memory and load problems seem to go away, but I don't get audio... So i'm wondering the requirements on the server/client side to get this configured properly for my scenario. Do I have to decode on the server? Or can this be done on the client?
The idea is to have VLC configured to act as a simple pass-thru for the streams and then have the decoding done at the client side.
Here is my configure line:

What commands did you send vlc to get a pass-thru with a h.264 stream coming in from udp?
We have tried it with rtsp, but it is impossible because of timestamp problems under transcoding. Please post! I will share some insight with you on the problems with h.264. You can read here for more info on problems with h.264 and rtsp

We had similar problems with h.264 from file. We can get audio, but no video. There is a problem in vlc's way of understanding h.264 streams over rtp and I guess that Udp makes no difference. It is however interesting that you managed to get a video throu. So please! Share! H.264 is hard to implement because it carries no info about the decoding timestamp and it can be set to what ever frame rate you want from source. That makes it very hard for vlc to decode it and transcode it to another format. So I guess that when you pass your stream through vlc, it decodes, but doesn't find a timestamp. Maybe that is the problem.
