VLC Windows Store: Feature Requests

Postby MrChaos » 23 Aug 2018 21:13

Hi,
I really like the looks of the Windows Store VLC Player. However there are a couple of
things missing for me that make it inconvenient to use:

- a way to exclude folders from the picked source folder
- display 'folders' in the video section as folders rather than showing their content. So a video series doesn't spam the video section
- the music section showing albums with pretty pictures depending on the windows folder structure rather than 'guessing' what songs belong to which album

Are those things difficult or very time consuming to implement? It would make a huge difference

Hi MrChaos,
- a way to exclude folders from the picked source folder
I'm not sure I understand what that means and how that'd work.
- display 'folders' in the video section as folders rather than showing their content. So a video series doesn't spam the video section
Fair enough.
- the music section showing albums with pretty pictures depending on the windows folder structure rather than 'guessing' what songs belong to which album
Not sure I understand. You're talking about covers in the albums tab of the music section? What's the issue?

No, but to be honest right now I'm just trying to catch up on my todo list. So unless you want to implement this yourself in which case I will happily merge your patch, don't expect it to land so soon.

Thank you for your reply

So that you can select which folders appear in the overview and which do not. However this is the least important feature of the three to me.

It's a problem that I have with many music-players like Groove music. Only some media players for phones are different (Mort player or BlackPlayer).

How I think it should work:
You got your music library in Windows Explorer: Folder 1, Folder 2, Folder 3....
each folder has it's own "cover.jpg", separately or within the files.
--> Media Player looks at those folders and simply displays Folder 1, Folder 2, Folder 3.... and their cover.jpgs.

How it currently seems to work:
You got your music library in Windows Explorer: Folder 1, Folder 2, Folder 3....
each folder has it's own "cover.jpg", separately or within the files.
--> Media Player looks at each and every music file and their tags. It compares the tags and puts together the music it 'thinks' belong together.
Result: an album mess. Some albums being shown as multiple ones.
So if you made your own album with songs from different artist and gave it your own cover.jpg, the player disassembles the album into bits and peaces.

No, but to be honest right now I'm just trying to catch up on my todo list. So unless you want to implement this yourself in which case I will happily merge your patch, don't expect it to land so soon.

I understand, unfortunately I have no clue of such things and I would just break the whole thing :D
However I will be super happy if you ever decide to add the above.
