[XBOX ONE] After 2017-08-30 update things broke...

Hi Guys...

I was kinda hoping that somoene else would've noticed this but apparently no one posted in here...

When the hand controller goes turns itself off, previously it would bring up the play HUD and disappear by itself within few seconds.
After the update, when controller turns off, the homescreen comes up and video keeps playing in the background.
Unable to remove it unless you press B again which in turn stops the video from playing and you are back at the beginning.

On high bitrate videos, fast forward sometimes for more than 10 mins would crash VLC completely but after the update it is happening even on lower bit rate videos...

First issue makes VLC unusable for me...

Hi thunderlance,

Sorry to hear about your issues.
That's annoying, I feel ya. Not sure why it was disappearing by itself in the first place, but controller state changes (on/off) should not cause implicit app navigation anyway. This is fixed as of now and will be part of the next release.
As a work around in the meantime, I'd suggest you remove your batteries and plug your controller using a cable so that it acts as a wired controller thus preventing from turning itself off.
On high bitrate videos, fast forward sometimes for more than 10 mins would crash VLC completely but after the update it is happening even on lower bit rate videos..
I'm interested in a sample for this as I can't repro at the moment. Just upload it somewhere and post a link here please.
I was kinda hoping that somoene else would've noticed this but apparently no one posted in here...
Thanks for your post, feel free to report more issues/improvement you find, so that together we can improve the app ;)

Sorry for delayed response, haven't had time to try it out untill last night....

Controller issue fixed, works fine now, thank you!

The video hang issue however is still there but I have a feeling that this is rather a network issue as it happens in random places?
Tried it with a random 1080p 3D movie and it would crash at different places every time.
As I understand it... While skipping ahead, VLC needs to buffer the media before showing it.
Is it possible that VLC doesn't get proper information back and gets stuck on waiting?
[Edit: Just tried copying onto the Xbox itself and same things happens after 1 and 12 mins so not networking issue]

As for a sample, it would be a bit too big to upload...
Perhaps build in a logging tool in a hidden menu for trouble shooting where people can just send you the log?
Logs could be saved onto USB drive rather than sending it from app itself. That way you don't get swamped...

Finally two (small?) requests...
First up...
in Netflix, if you press the right Analog stick button, you get a small information text on upper left corner about the media stream.
Is it possible to do something similiar for Xbox One version of VLC?
In regular PC version, you already have the option for choosing Codec information that brings everything up in a pop up screen.
Xbox version should also include the file name since sometimes there are many files in dir with same name with different numers & not so easy to remember if it was nr 038 or 039 out of 60...

Second, maybe use X button to select & deselect files in a dir to play rather than either playing all of the files in same dir and skipping unwanted ones or go one by one...
Doesn't have to be more advanced than that.

What's the exact name of the file? Maybe I can try finding it myself.

Check this out: https://code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc- ... -find-logs

Yes. Opened an issue for this here https://code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc-winrt/issues/201.

True, but it will require a playlist screen so you can see which videos you selected and manage them. Good idea about the "X" button interaction though, took note here https://code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc-winrt/issues/202.
Can't give you a timeline for these 2 features, as I'm currently working on something else but will keep those issues updated when I get around to it.

Does that work on Xbox One version of VLC? If so, how do you get there? Didn't see anything on the file manager in Xbox One.

Doesn't really have to be that advanced in beginning. Just a line at the bottom that says that you have selected x amount of files for viewing.
Can't give you a timeline for these 2 features, as I'm currently working on something else but will keep those issues updated when I get around to it.
That is fine. I am not demanding anything, merely asking and it is great that I've gotten a response on this!

Does that work on Xbox One version of VLC? If so, how do you get there? Didn't see anything on the file manager in Xbox One.
Afraid that's not going to be an option for Xbox. But maybe you can try and reproduce on the desktop app.
In any case, don't forget to let me know the exact name of the 1080p 3D file so I can dl it and see for myself.

Cheers!

Have you been able to reproduce the issue with lockups?

Not quite.

I used the Captain America file (1080p 3D 7.74Gb). There does seem to be an issue with fast foward using upnp and the time seems off too. When doing fast forward here, the app does not hang but video player quits and navigate back to explorer. I'm looking into this.

When playing the video from a USB drive plugged into the Xbox however, it seems to be working alright and I can fast forward the whole movie with no issues.
