Hardware decoding on Xbox One S

I tried playing a 2160p video file, on VLC on my xbox one s and got a grey-white screen. I've tried MKVs with x264 and HEVC video encoding. When I tried disabling the hardware decoding, it worked but was extremely slow and blocky. Any thoughts?
